Why I hate superheroes

so they can channel people’s vulnerability
into hate and harvest it as power
that empowers their own self-esteem
and still feel self-righteous about it.

They used to hide behind masks but now they hide behind screens.

They used to blow up bridges in the name of fighting evil,
but now they release all the evil,
blow up all the bridges,
contaminate all the hearts,
and still gain a following.

They have a cult following who’s never seen them outside the screen.

but still argue about who’s hero is better.

The truth is, it doesn’t matter,
because they’re all garbage.

and manipulate their childhood fantasies into lifelong royalties.

they can be the dark knight
just by inheriting some nonexistent money,
and use all that money to flirt with girls
and still create some world-class technology
just to beat up some punks in the streets.

they can gain all the truths and wonders of the world
just by dressing in tops a little too low
and bottoms a little too short,
and still fly as high as superman,
just to take half of his name and live in his shadow.

They’re all garbage because they do all this
and still hide behind their masks.

They do all this,
then hide behind their masks,
and still enjoy all the fame and glory.

We all want to be superheroes.
