The onion -


It’s one of the first things you put in the pot;

it infuses with oil well;

it can be spicy and crunchy,

or soft and sweet.


It also comes in a lot of colors.


It speaks mystery,

like there are always more layers to peel;

it dices easily,

just roll the knife and everything comes to life;

and if you forget about it,

it’s also okay -


at least most of the time.


Use a sharp knife,

don’t bruise it so much.


It can be a little dry,

but only on the outside;

it’ll show you why,

not to lose the roots so soon;

and if you want to try,

it can be a little bit of a pickle, too.


It also reminds me to cry,

every once in a while.
